KANNAWIDAN Festival

KANNAWIDAN FESTIVAL

Throughout the years, different festivals and occasions were gathered and celebrated by the Filipinos but this time, let us focus our topic to a festival which can truly revive ones culture as well as its traditions, and that is the KANNAWIDAN festival.

Kannawidan is known as the Iloko foundation of arts and culture. And we Ilokano’s are celebrating this festival from January 29 until February 3 through the years. Witness some of the informations about the Kannawidan festival that is based on my research. Kannawidan is a variant of the iloko word “Tawid” meaning heritage or inheritance. This festival has the aim to promote and preserve their rich heritage. Here are some of the missions they are trying to implement and perform in a short period of day in our city: They commit preserve and help maintain the Ilocano cultural heritage; They commit to rekindle the pride of ilocanos in their arts and culture, values and tradition.; They commit to nurture the sense of Ilocano identity in our youth and future generations. And lastly, they commit to promote awareness of the Ilocano arts and culture in the Philippines and abroad. In six day of the festival their products and supplies were staged from trade, abundant harvest, farm products, livestock and agriculture. Farm products are displayed just like the OTOP from the different towns here at Ilocos. It includes handicrafts, foods, products, different plants, bonsai, bags, display materials, baskets, wines and many more.

Every person can visit here to see the true Ilocano spirit as they present their richness and strengthen every Ilocano culture. Have fun and enjoy.
